Creating The Unexpected - Fifth & Cor

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Robin Dimond, CEO & Founder of Fifth & Cor, located in Boca Raton, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Fifth & Cor is at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and creativity. We're a marketing & innovation company harnessing the best tools to support brands, consumers, and communities. We work with clients to design the future, build the brand, and tell the story through multi-channel experiences. We specialize in a variety of services but would describe social commerce as our bread and butter. To elevate that offering, we work to take our clients from Web2 to Web3 and bring attention to the integration of innovation and tech into marketing.

Tell us about yourself

To put it short, I have always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur. It was just a matter of how that would look. I previously owned restaurants and also had a house-flipping business, and now I have Fifth & Cor. To me, the real meaning of being an entrepreneur means empowering others. The whole reason I'm an entrepreneur and the reason I didn't take private equity investment when starting my business is that I want all of my employees to own their work and determine their destinies.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our most notable accomplishment this past year was starting Fifth & Cor, but everything we've done since then has amounted to our success. In our first year, we are proud to have experienced company-wide growth during an economic downturn. Over the last year, we have worked with a total of 46 clients, globally touching various industries, including fashion, consumer-packaged goods, automotive, food & beverage, healthcare, beauty, luxury goods, home services, technology, and more. We continuously expanded our services, now offering over ten services. While doing great work with our clients, we also focused on expanding the Fifth & Cor name. To do this, Fifth & Cor established many great partnerships and contributed to 20+ co-marketing opportunities within those relationships. Along with this, we published 16 case studies and spoke at numerous events, building a name for ourselves in our community and within the industry.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Starting a business in the midst of a pandemic and now a recession has definitely not been easy. We've witnessed major layoffs from large companies and have had to learn how not to let the fear consume us. We've had to reposition our sales process to let brands know that we can be a solution to these challenges. With this challenge, several doors have opened. We've been able to shift our focus on getting involved in the community and helping businesses in any way that we can. We became a service provider at our local innovation center to give small businesses direction on where to begin their marketing strategy. We've also been able to donate our time and work to veteran-owned businesses that needed some help getting off the ground.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  • The first tip I'd give someone comes from a sign in my office that says, "surround yourself with women who would mention your name in a room full of opportunities." You can't run a business alone. You need accountability and support. Find great people who will pour into you and you back into them.
  • Get involved in your community! This is the best way to form authentic connections and the more you put yourself and your business out there, the more your name will come up.
  • Lastly, don't be afraid to take risks. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Do something that scares you every day." Being an entrepreneur requires you to take risks, knowing that there's a possibility that you may not succeed. And if you do fail, don't give up. Get back on your feet, understand what you did wrong, and learn how you can improve.
