What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a holistic fertility expert. I own a wellness center in St Petersburg, FL, and offer in-person services like acupuncture and herbal medicine along with virtual coaching for women that make the path to parenthood as painless and meaningful as possible.
Tell us about yourself
My niche of fertility was a "calling" in every sense of the word. It picked me, and I was finally willing to listen. The thought, "What I do is shaping the health of women and their families two generations at a time," is still what propels me out of bed each morning after 14 years in the field.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing a wellness center to employ six medical providers and three support staff who have served our community for over ten years. I've always loved helping people, which was the catalyst for me to be in a healing profession; however, helping my colleagues have dependable, steady income at the top of our field doing what they love in a setting we all love is everything.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It can be lonely. I've learned over the years to call on other entrepreneurial friends when I want to celebrate a win so that it doesn't feel so isolating.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Look at it like a marriage. If you aren't in it for the long haul, you may want to seriously reconsider.
- Get a mentor, even when you are just starting out. Accountability and inspiration are two important ingredients for growth when you outgrow their support, and hopefully, you will find another mentor a few levels up to help you sustain the growth.
- Keep asking yourself the question, "Who am I when no one is buying?" It will tell you where your work is to make your business sustainable.
