Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Renee Powers, Founder of Feminist Book Club, located in Minneapolis, MN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Feminist Book Club encourages resistance through reading with our blog, podcast, events, and our signature monthly subscription box. Our members convene on our own private discussion platform where they can connect with one another, discuss in our forums, or join a video chat from anywhere in the world.
Tell us about yourself
I started Feminist Book Club in 2018 as a way to reconnect with books and stay connected with my friends after I moved out of state. What started as a small online group grew into a full-time career!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm most proud of being selected as a 2021 Tory Burch Foundation Fellow, one of 50 woman-owned businesses in the United States.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The day-to-day administrative work can be really mind-numbing. I'm definitely a big ideas person, so I get frustrated when I'm tethered to replying to emails or updating our website for too long.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be consistent.
- Befriend other entrepreneurs at a similar point in their journey.
- Align all decisions with your personal values.
