First Choice Home Health & Hospice - Beau Sorensen
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Beau Sorensen, COO of First Choice Home Health & Hospice, located in Orem, UT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a home health and hospice company that serves primarily the elderly and those who are recovering from a surgical procedure in their home.
Tell us about yourself
I grew up in home health and hospice care! This started as a part-time job when I was in high school and then college and became a career that I really identified with and grew to love. The thing that keeps me going is always keeping our patients in mind and how we make a huge difference in their quality of life. People are able to be more independent for longer, and I look at our industry as a solution to the problems that plague healthcare. Knowing that I make a difference every day is all the motivation I need!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having served over 20,000 people in some of the most vulnerable parts of their lives and making a real difference in society, one person at a time.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The buck stops with you! If there's no money for payroll, you are ultimately the one who has to solve the problem. If you have a service recovery issue, you are the one that cares most about your reputation, and therefore, you may have to solve it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find something that solves a problem. You could be someone who builds a better mousetrap, but it's far better to be someone who solves a problem instead. Those people are the ones who become generationally successful.
- Don't look at today and see what can make you successful right now; look at tomorrow and what will make you successful down the road. Most startups fail because they prioritize the now at the expense of the later.
- Don't just do what you love. Too many people fall into that trap. Do something that lies at the intersection of your skills, your passions, and the needs of consumers. When you can hit that mark, you will make something amazing.
