Be Better, Move Better, and Live Better - FBH Wellness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Donna Fisher, Owner of FBH Wellness, located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

FBH is a one-stop wellness shop that offers a variety of on-site and in-home wellness modalities. We believe that each person's body responds differently to bodywork and needs to find a system that works best for them. Our core protocol client is here for Pilates and supplements their regime with either MAT, Chiro, MELT, Rossiter, or Yoga.

Tell us about yourself

I am an Enneagram two (caretaker), so it is easy to be in the wellness industry with so many people needing specific care. That being said, I started in fitness wellness in my teens as an athlete and understood firsthand how powerful movement could be for the mind, body, and soul. Finding new ways to achieve goals for others to have an improved quality of life led me to start FBH Wellness (For Better Health).

I fell in love with Contrology (Pilates) in 2000. Learning about Joseph Pilates's legacy of movement opened my eyes to a system that everyone can do and needs. I stay motivated by sharing the journey with my staff and clients, which gives so much to be better, move better and live better. They inspire me, which produces motivation for returning to the studio, ready to go, day after day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying afloat through the Covid shutdown as a wellness center that survives on face-to-face sessions was a major task of re-invention, refocusing, and reimagining what could be possible.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats has been a challenge for me since we do not have the staffing resources to do the extra side jobs. I feel overwhelmed balancing the responsibilities I enjoy and am good at and the ones I am NOT. Allocating time to complete things that I do not do well is tough but crucial for a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Staff- you can only do so much yourself. Do you have people around you that can weather the storms?
  2. Location- have you taken the time to access location accessibility external and internal?
  3. Backup Funds- soooo many things add up, taxes, more equipment, loss of staff. Have a backup funding plan.
