Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Cameron, founder of Fashion Your Life, located in Victoria, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

With Fashion Your Life I offer visibility coaching and fashion consultation for women in business who are creating new ways of working in the world. They want to look and sound like themselves (not a carbon copy of someone else) and they want to feel good about how they are showing up because they are ready to take on a more visible position in their business.

Tell us about yourself

Prior to starting my business I worked in the fashion industry all across Canada for over 20 years, which contributes to the garment knowledge and expertise I bring to my client experience.

I studied business while still working and also discovered the world of coaching. I started my business helping women go through their wardrobes, putting looks together and taking them shopping, which I still do today.

Over the years of continued development it has evolved into a full circle moment, my business today is what I have always wanted it to be. I help women represent their most authentic selves with how they show up in their business, my access point just happens to be through what they wear.

In a patriarchal world where we have been conditioned to do things a certain way, I see more and more women going into business and showing up in the online world feeling very uncomfortable and unsure of themselves. I alleviate that to the point that it becomes natural and easy for women to just be themselves, do what they love and attract people they love to work with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is 100% taking the leap of faith and investing in myself and my business in a way I had never dreamed was possible before. It got me to where I am today, which is finally aligned with where I am headed. I finally stepped out of my own way and things are taking off for me and Fashion Your Life in a way that comes natural and easy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most difficult thing with being a business owner is learning to trust yourself and feeling certain about things so you can make quick and smart decisions. We need to talk more about how quickly and often things change in business, because being able to make decisions amidst such change is critical.

You may have people you trust that are helpful advisors, but most of the time you are doing everything yourself. Since everything is always happening at once, this makes it easy to get overwhelmed and feel like giving up. The ability to make quick and smart decisions amidst all the change comes with time and practice and patience. When you truly believe in yourself and your why for being in business, giving up is simply not an option. Call me stubborn but every blip on my radar has been a monumental learning opportunity.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Know your why, like really really really feel it deep in your bones. Always be exploring this and adding to it, it will evolve as you do.

2) Allow yourself to play, experiment and have fun. If we are not having fun in business then why the heck even have a business to begin with?

3) When you are stumped on something and need to make a decision, do what feels good. We are here to change the world and that includes how we make decisions.
