Less Stress Feeding Your Family - Families Eating Well

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephanie Meyers, founder and owner of Families Eating Well, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a registered dietitian and nutritionist teaching parents new ways to relate to kids over food, so eating is less stressful for everyone in the family. My clients are parents, grandparents, and caregivers who want better tools for nurturing a healthy relationship with food (for themselves) and the kids in their lives.

My book, End the Mealtime Meltdown: Using the Table Talk Method to Free Your Family from Daily Struggles Over Food and Picky Eating, was published in May 2022. It's a step-by-step guide to transforming what you say to your kids about eating while they're eating, which is a game-changer when it comes to feeding kids.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a dietitian for twenty-four years with three simultaneous jobs: I own an online nutrition practice in Boston called Families Eating Well and taught for fourteen years in the nutrition department at Boston University. I'm also the Nutrition Manager in The Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. What motivates me is the same no matter where I'm at work: It's connecting with and co-creating meaningful change with the clients I'm lucky enough to work with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Acquiring a literary agent, signing a book deal, and getting my book published after ten years of research and writing!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Relaxing. And knowing you can't do it all. My daily mindfulness meditation practice is the way I get through.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Believe three things:

  1. What you care deeply about is something the world needs your perspective on.
  2. When the going gets tough, don't get tough on yourself. Learn to practice self-compassion.
  3. Ask for help when you need it. It helps you grow as a business owner and a person.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't judge yourself harshly about how eating is going for you or your kids. It's never too late to create new habits and a more peaceful relationship with food.
