Content Marketing That Scales With You - Every Little Word
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristen Sweeney, owner and CEO of Every Little Word, located in Boston, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Every Little Word is a content marketing company. We help thought leaders create content that shares their ideas and expertise without the hassle of doing the writing themselves. Our customers are usually executives or marketing leaders for professional service companies. We don't care what industry you're in—just that you're passionate about the work that you do!
Tell us about yourself
I have a story like many entrepreneurs. I started as a freelance writer who ended up hiring a team and growing a business. My original motivation for starting my company was to serve more clients and optimize my time. Those goals are still important to me, but now that I have a team, they are a big part of my motivation. The idea of creating a great work environment, supportive company culture, and satisfying, fulfilling jobs for my team makes me excited to show up to work each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is definitely building my team. As a writer, content creator, and marketer, I've developed my skills bit by bit over time. But when I started growing my business, I had to learn a lot about being a leader—very quickly.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is that you don't always have the answers, but you have to make decisions anyway. You have to evaluate the information you have and make the best possible choice. It definitely helps to have great people supporting you in making those decisions.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Look for the best possible team members. They will make or break your success.
- Don't get distracted by difficult clients. Give your great clients all your love.
- It's hard, but set boundaries. Your business is important, but so is living your life while you build it!
