Nurtures Changes in a Woman’s Body - Everviolet
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keira Kotler, Founder of Everviolet, located in San Anselmo, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Everviolet creates functional and beautiful intimate apparel for the changing needs of women as they navigate life. Born out of my personal experience with breast cancer, our collection consists of lingerie and loungewear that is ethically manufactured with sustainable fabrics.
It accommodates a myriad of conditions from cancer to other illnesses, pregnancy to menopause, disability to skin sensitivities, and even puberty. Our customers consist of women over age 36 whose bodies have changed and who seek comfortable and fashionable undergarments to help them feel comfortable and confident.
Tell us about yourself
Having undergone a bilateral mastectomy at age 40, I know first-hand how body changes can impact our well-being on both physical and psychological levels. My mission is to help women renew or redefine a sense of self and femininity following change, enabling them to feel like people first and patients last and helping them to feel their best no matter what they're facing.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have received quite a bit of press throughout the years, but I'm very proud that our Astrid Bralette with Lace was voted Best Bra Combining Comfort and Beauty for All Surgery Types by Business Insider. I am also proud that so many women wear Everviolet and claim that they never thought they could feel this pretty or comfortable again. That is why I do what I do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a solopreneur is a solitary journey filled with intense milestones, decisions, and challenges every day. Thankfully, I have an amazing team and often lean into my community of other female founders for support and insight.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure there is a need for what you want to create. Research the market thoroughly and understand your value proposition in advance.
- Know that everything will take twice as long and cost twice as much as you expect. Be prepared to be creative with your resources. Being scrappy is a good thing!
- Have faith in yourself. Know that you will emerge from challenging times, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
