Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christina Fick, Owner of Evergreen Medical Acupuncture, located in Evergreen, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own Evergreen Medical Acupuncture, a modern, scientific approach to Acupuncture. We typically see patients who are serious about their health and getting better. We see anyone from young children with emotional issues to teenage athletes, college-aged kids with digestive issues, to working adults with sleep issues. We also see seriously ill cancer patients, people in all stages of autoimmunity, sport and auto accidents, post-surgery, and even helping patients get pregnant and treat people for cosmetic needs!
Tell us about yourself
I'm a native of Evergreen, Colorado, where my business is. I decided to go into Acupuncture after I had great success with it myself. I'm passionate about helping people and constantly trying to learn more about health and medicine. There's nothing more rewarding than helping the community I grew up in. To this day, I play competitive soccer, hike, and do outdoor activities so staying healthy is a big part of my life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is probably building out our new clinic. It took a lot of detailed planning. I came up with the layout, the interior design, and finishes which was a big but fun project. In 2015 I also finished my two-year clinical doctorate, which was very rewarding!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is having to wear multiple hats at once. For me, many times, it's wearing hats that I might have no experience with. I might have to treat a cancer patient, then go try to fix the wifi issues, find the right seal for the leaking faucet, or put together a claim for an auto accident. I've had to learn how to hire staff, fire staff, and manage my employees' personal matters, all while coordinating cleaning and maintenance for our clinic and making sure patients are getting the best medical care. It's a lot!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start small, don't bite off more than you can chew.
- Set it up right the first time, don't take shortcuts.
- Do what's best for your customers, and your business will thrive.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I just hope that people continue to be brave and heartfelt business owners. It can be a thankless job at times but so important to so many customers when you offer something truly special.
