Exceptional Event Experience - Events4Anyone
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in event planning but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with May Yeo Silvers, Founder of Events4Anyone, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have two businesses. M2 Hospitality is an event planning company serving 6-8-figure coaches and consultants to strategize, plan, and execute their ticketed in-person events. Events4Anyone is a business coaching company helping event planners to turn their passion for events into a profitable business.
Tell us about yourself
I am originally from Singapore and have always had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was young. When I was working in the corporate world, I would drive my superiors crazy by constantly questioning their thought process, which seemed relatively inefficient and ineffective. I was called "belligerent" among other things. That is when I knew I couldn't work for anyone except myself, as I am one who constantly seeks growth, innovation, and evolution for myself and for my job.
I started these two businesses because there's too much inaccurate information in the events field floating out there that is causing people I want to help in both my businesses to make the wrong moves and lose a lot of money, time, and, sadly, their spirit. I have the experience & the blueprint to show how it could be done and the results to prove that my methodology works.
Frankly, the amount of ill advice out there is what motivates me every day to "correct the wrong" - so to speak. I am constantly working to deliver the message by using different platforms and media outlets to drown out what people perceive as "accurate" information.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
To have a direct and indirect impact in making positive changes in someone's life and at the same time being able to show my young daughter that we can be financially rewarded when we are helping others to live their best lives while we are living our best lives helping others.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being too hard on oneself & always thinking we could and should do more to the point of burnout.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Invest your money in people who really know what they are doing and who can help you build a brand, sales, and marketing funnel, system, and process. Trying to figure all these out yourself will take YEARS and incur lots of wasted time, money, and heartaches.
- Enjoy the journey! Each step you take is an exploration. Throw away preconceptions of how the journey and end result SHOULD look like. This is what makes entrepreneurship exciting.
- KNOW YOUR NUMBERS. This is probably one of the critical fundamentals of running a profitable business: Know when to invest, when to be patient, when to ramp up efforts, and when to make the hard decisions on cutting costs.
