Peace, Health, and Great Flavor - Euro Te

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Olivia Medina, Founder of Euro Te, located in Mexico, Mexico.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Euro te is a Mexican company that carries tea & tisanes from around the world, especially loose leaf and everything related to tea service, we do B2C and B2B business, and we love to teach everything about tea. Our main customers are cafes, restaurants, spas and everywhere they serve a hot or cold beverage to clients.

Tell us about yourself

I discovered tea on a trip to Sweden, my husband's country, and got in love with it, then when I got fired from my job thought about bringing tea to my country, which almost no one knew or understood, at that time Internet didn't exist so I had to do book research and took me a while to really know tea. Eventually, I wrote the first book in Latin America about tea and explained its pairings with Latin food and tea, which no one had done before. Now I love to teach about tea in my virtual academy, "tea lovers academy," and my goal is to give every Mexican "peace, health and great flavor in every cup of tea."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is to sell around 50% of every cup of loose-leaf tea, drink in my country. Also, to be selected as one of the 30 promises of business by Forbes magazine and to write about entrepreneurship in a virtual magazine for and by women.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think that the loneliness and great responsibility of having people working for you are some of the hard things when you own your own business. Another thing is to learn about many things to understand what is going on and to solve the problems you will encounter.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't expect to win money in the first years of your business. It takes a lot of effort and time to be profitable.
  2. Establish a real salary for you as early as possible.
  3. Hire the best people you can for every key position ( they should be better than you in that area).
