Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in athletics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Etienne Dessaudes, basketball coach at George Brown College, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am volunteering as the lead assistant coach of the varsity women's basketball team of George Brown College.

Tell us about yourself

I am a French basketball coach from France, and I've been on the basketball field since I am 7 years old. What's keeps me motivated is the ability to share my passion for a great team sport and to know that each and every day, I am contributing to its success.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I don't have a business, but as a coach, I won two back-to-back gold medals at the regional level and one silver at the national level. Both of these were in France, with women at U15 and U18 age levels.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When you create your own project, the hardest thing is to organize everything, so everyone in the group is doing well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would start by answering questions to myself about what I want to do, then open the network and see if someone else is doing the same thing in the same area.

Lastly, I would volunteer with the appropriate persons just to get the feeling and experience before putting my energy into a new thing.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I would love to share in French or English with anyone that is curious to grow their network.
