Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Humberto Garcia, Founder of Ethos Consultancy, located in Sherman Oaks, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Ethos Consultancy, I turn company culture into an operational advantage. I'm an operations consultant helping founders, organizational leaders, and teams at growing companies improve processes and systems, up team performance, and build awesome company culture.

My clients are growing small-to-medium companies with 50-200 employees and annual revenue of $5M-$100M. They experience day-to-day operations as overwhelming, their leaders wear multiple hats, and there's always a fire to put out. To top it off, managing people is stressful as pressure contributes to a lack of coordination and effective communication across teams.

Tell us about yourself

My jam's human behavior in operations, and it's where people meet processes. I honed my operations experience at an international ITAD company servicing Fortune 500 contracts. Earning my MS in Organizational Development supercharged my application of human behavior in operations.

I started working on my business after finding fulfillment from working on developing company talent at a former job. To this day, the most fulfilling moment in my career came from coaching and mentoring a former employee. I learned a lot about human connection and myself from this process.

I wholeheartedly believe developing company culture takes operational execution to another level making it a unique and genuine competitive advantage. I wanted to start where I left off after my position got eliminated at my last company.

This led me to establish Ethos Consultancy and bring my unique blend of operations and culture building to companies putting people first.
I'm motivated daily by my beautiful wife and twin girls! They're my inspiration to make every day a happy and fulfilling experience as we celebrate small and big wins together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Investing in myself and establishing my company is my biggest accomplishment to date. I trusted in my ability to bring value to others through my experience, perspective, and unique view of company operations and culture. Without that trust, I would not have chosen my own path and begun building a purpose-driven company.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a solopreneur, you'll wear all the company hats in the beginning as you establish and build your company. It's overwhelming at times, but learning how to create a structure to tackle each hat incrementally helps with time management. Understanding where I invest my daily time allows me to see which distractions keep me from my goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself.
  2. Celebrate the small wins.
  3. Build a strategic network.
