Tell us about yourself
I entered the Esthetics Industry almost 12 years ago, graduating from Gina’s College in Advanced Esthetics. It feels like yesterday sometimes, and I can still remember how excited I was to be able to offer spa services to the public. Today I must say, my passion shines even brighter. Since then, I’ve done countless additional courses, programs, workshops, events and offered spa services at fundraisers because I truly have such a passion for helping people. Being able to create a space for everyone to unwind continues to motivate me each and every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment, I would say, is being able to start my own business. After college, I spent eight years working in a busy spa. I will always be grateful for the experience and motivation to get me where I am today.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner, I feel, requires a lot of different hats, so managing all aspects does require planning and staying on top of things. I would say the most difficult part of owning my business right now is setting the time aside to create content for social media. Something I will continue to work on. Currently, I am looking to hire an assistant to help with graphic work and social media!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- When you are opening your own business, expect there to be bumps in the road. I was lucky enough to have colleagues and other entrepreneurs that helped me tremendously when I opened my little spa. There were delays & unexpected things that did get me questioning was I making the right decision. In the end, I know now that nothing worth having is easy, and if you stay focused and positive, things will turn out better than you can ever imagine.
- Managing your time. I always set some time aside to plan and focus on what needs to get done and prioritized. As a business owner, you will always have a list of things to do, and you will feel like it is a never-ending list. Creating a work-life balance will help from any burnout.
- Make friends with your industry! There is always enough to go around! There have been countless of times where someone has reached out for help on opening their own thing and was surprised that I was so supportive. This should not happen; I will always support upcoming entrepreneurs with open arms; if it’s your passion, go for it and don’t look back.
