What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm Erin Copelan, and I'm the best-selling author of "Welcome to Caregiving: The Things Caregivers Never Talk About." My mission is to serve the caregiving community. To help soften the caregiving journey for current caregivers and to help caregivers who may have completed their journey to heal from the trauma of caregiving.
Tell us about yourself
In 2009 I became the sole Caregiver for my husband as he was diagnosed with cancer, underwent multiple surgeries, and a successful liver transplant. With caregiving experience that spans over a decade in multiple states with multiple medical centers, I was called to share my stories with the underserved caregiving community. I was called to share hope, community, and love. I am a UNOS Ambassador helping to spread the word about organ donation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Publishing my book was a huge accomplishment for me. I had received the calling to write the book, but I had no idea how to bring it to fruition. Thankfully I found people to help guide me and help bring my dream to a best-selling reality.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, it's doing ALL the things. I wear all of the hats in my businesses (yep, I've got more than one!). Creator, accountant, marketing guru, and janitorial (I can be really messy sometimes).
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
One of my mentors, Mina Shah, taught me this year that "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast." I like everything to happen NOW. Breaking things down into small, doable tasks makes the work feel less overwhelming and helps me reach my goals faster.
