What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own Erin Blackwell Studio, LLC, which is a portrait and branding photography studio in Boise, ID. We specialize in beautiful photos of fun-loving people and brands. I also sell my "Get the Shot Guide," which teaches entrepreneurs how to take their own amazing photos and feel confident in front of the camera.

Tell us about yourself

Thirteen years ago, I had three kids ages five and under and was looking for a way to help with the family income. I decided to start a photography business with no experience and no money! I taught myself everything I could on Youtube and via blogs until I could afford workshops. I now have four children, and they, and my love for traveling, are what keep me motivated. I also have amazing clients who I love to look and feel confident enough to show up as the face of their brand!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Photographing over 5,000 entrepreneurs is pretty amazing to me! Also, winning awards in portrait, boudoir, and branding photography are huge accomplishments.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Imposter syndrome. We all struggle with it! Thinking we're not good enough, we need to buy more gear and add more things when in reality, we already have what we need. We just have to stay focused on our ideal clients and provide them with massive value!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start small. Don't spend all of your money on "things." You need a lot less than you think you do.
Be yourself! People need to know, like, and trust you, so don't be afraid to SHOW UP!
Provide value. Don't focus on making money, focus on giving your ideal client what they need, and the money will come.
