What's your business, and who are your customers?
Enlightened Hire. Our customers are salon, spa, and barber professionals and owners. We also serve industry schools and students.
Tell us about yourself
As a veteran cosmetologist and former salon owner, I have always been frustrated by the high turnover and scattered work opportunities our industry offers. I began offering matching services on a personal level in Kansas City several years ago - I would get to know owners, students, and seasoned pros and provide advice on where they would be happiest. Connecting our industry on a personal level is so rewarding I needed to find a way to scale the personal service to offer it on a national level. Now, connecting owners and salon pros on a large scale are very motivating and inspiring!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Designing, launching, and implementing Enlightened Hire! It is a custom software system designed by me - I did not code the program, but every functionality Enlightened Hire has fills a need I saw in the industry. I have created the first business plug-in for salon owners to manage the hiring beast.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Isolation and pressure. While I thrive on being under pressure, it is constant with Enlightened Hire. So many moving parts and people to manage with a software program!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start small and prove your concept. Don't get too far ahead of yourself, be patient, adapt to change, be consistent and stay positive. Be ready to work harder than ever imagined possible - for the first few years; it is extremely demanding!
