Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Harlow, founder of Endorphin Fitness, located in Richmond, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Endorphin Fitness provides comprehensive triathlon and run coaching for all ages and abilities. Our customer is the youth or adult athlete seeking to better themselves through endurance sports.

Tell us about yourself

I started racing triathlons at the age of 10 when no one knew how to coach youth triathletes. I started my business to change this and am proud to say that Endorphin Fitness has played a role in making youth triathlon the fastest-growing segment of triathlon in the US over the last decade. I coach to empower people to accomplish more than they think is possible and to provide them the confidence to do the same in their everyday lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a business from concept to what it is today, reaching athletes nationwide and employing over ten coaches.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Navigating the ups and downs that are inherent in any business well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go all in. I was lucky to be right out of college and able to commit fully to my business.
  2. Never sacrifice your priorities and values.
  3. Expect it to take more money and more time than you forecast but stay committed regardless.
