Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Kelsey Beach, Owner of enCORE Therapy KC, located in Overland Park, KS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a small private practice pelvic floor physical therapy clinic that specializes in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We serve the women of Kansas City by educating them about how their pelvic floor muscles and bodies can empower their perinatal journeys. We strive to normalize the linear healing of postpartum and destigmatize the taboo language around talking about pelvic floor symptoms, such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis recti, or pain with intercourse after a baby.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in July of 2020, you know, COVID. During this time, I was also pregnant with my first child. My initial goal as a pelvic floor physical therapist was to help active women heal their pelvic floor dysfunction. It was not until I started my own pregnancy journey I realized the gap in education between birth providers and their patients. I now being one of those patients. After a few months in, I rebranded my business to help women bridge this gap of education during the perinatal phase and help women better understand their physical bodies during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum stages of life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Becoming not only a new business owner but a new mom in the same year. Growing and nurturing not only a business but a baby.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is finding the right balance of being a mom, wife, and business owner all at the same time. I love the autonomy of owning my own private practice, but knowing when the turn the business brain off and mom brain on can be challenging especially with young ones.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it!
  2. Invest in your business with things you don't fully understand. DIY will only get you so far for so long.
  3. Be confident in your skills and shout it from the rooftops. Don't be ashamed to let people know they need you and your services.
