What's your business, and who are your customers?
We teach private and group music lessons to individuals of all ages for piano, violin, guitar, voice, trumpet, flute, drums, and more!
Tell us about yourself
I began piano lessons when I was five and singing in church when i was 8. I played trumpet starting in the 5th-grade band. All my music teachers greatly impacted my life, but my first one made me feel special. Having an adult's full attention for 30 minutes uninterrupted at that stage of life meant a lot. I desire to make each of Encore's students feel special and deserving of our best efforts.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I survived the pandemic! I have grown the studio to almost 5x the size it was when I was given ownership in 2016. Learning that being willing to not do things as they have always been done to achieve a greater result is a worthwhile trade.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The buck stops with you. There are no excuses. I am responsible for each music student's experience with my company, whether it is our responsiveness to inquiries, the teacher's interactions with the student, or making sure the facilities and instruments provided are what is needed. It is also one of the most gratifying things about being a business owner- making each client feel like they are important to me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have an expert skillset related to the field in which you are specializing.
- Be passionate about the quality of the client experience.
- Grow your knowledge base and continue refining and making your processes more efficient each week.
