Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a coaching business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eric Bedell, owner of Eric Bedell Coaching, based in Brooklyn, New York.

What's your business and who are your customers?

My personal mission and coaching practice work are committed to empowering the world, through individual conversations, to seek and act toward the realization of their highest possible selves.

Tell us about yourself

I’m a laid back, connection driven person, and I aim to incorporate all of my life experiences into my coaching work. A few influences on my approach include my triumphs over disordered eating & poor body image issues, touring the world as a punk drummer, and healing from a traumatic divorce.

I set out to foster the growth of each individual client I work with as a ripple effect means of evolving the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fact that I have learned true mental toughness and resilience; I am still standing, and I have no intentions of sitting.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The truth is that most people don't expect the amount of self-work required to make a business succeed. In order to courageously face every challenge that arises when owning your own gig, we must continue to evolve and iterate ourselves.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Do not quit your current job until your your side-gig / business idea is making a decent amount of predictable income.

2. If you deep deep down really believe in your offering (even the abstract concept of what it could become), you must commit to seeing it through before starting.

3. You won't have business problems. You will have personal problems that show up in your business. The gig is simply an extension of your own self-work and progress.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Working for yourself is an incredible opportunity. It's a decision to grow, and requires much more than "I want to do this thing, and I don't want to work for anyone else anymore."

The social gurus and motivational investors will lead you to believe that anyone can do this. There is truth to this... anyone is capable of making a solo business happen. Not everyone is willing to do whatever it takes, to stay focused, resilient, and committed to seeing their visions through.

If you feel you can do that - the world is yours. And above all else, have patience with yourself and the growth of the biz. If you play for the love of it and embody long-term vision, the only thing that will cause you to fail is you quitting. Go get it.
