What's your business, and who are your customers?

I founded a retreat business in 2004. I facilitate group healing intensives in Florida and California. And private 1:1 healing intensives in Santa Fe at our healing center. My clients are both male and female and are people struggling with managing emotions.

Tell us about yourself

I became an emotional healing educator because I grew up with emotionally stunted parents. I experienced a lot of trauma as a child, and it created a desire within me to help others who have been through similar experiences.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Publishing a book. Creating a teacher training. Leading retreats in foreign countries. And opening my own healing center.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Taking financial risks in booking venues and not knowing if people will enroll. Each group event is a risk in believing in myself and the mission of what I am teaching.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Being willing to jump in without knowing everything. You’ll learn as you go, and you can always course correct if you’re not getting results.
  2. Be tenacious and persistent, and regardless of what others say or do, keep your focus on how you can serve others in your unique way.
  3. Expect no one to run your business like you, hire slow and fire fast.
