What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a Joyful Productivity Coach, which means I help clients enjoy professional high performance and personal wellbeing.
My clients often work in the SaaS/tech industry and are already "high achievers," but want to learn how to sustain that high performance in a way that doesn't put personal life & wellbeing on hold along the way.
Through our work together, they learn to reach their goals through productivity that is genuinely joyful - versus stressful & draining!
Tell us about yourself
Prior to coaching, I worked in the world of private equity consulting. While I loved that work, my team, and the experience - what I didn't love was witnessing how often high performance came at the expense of wellbeing.
A passion for blending the two led me to consult for a top HR tech company where I helped businesses create environments where people and performance thrived.
However, deep down, I'd always known I wanted to do "my own thing." So while working at my "bridge job," I pursued a coaching certification and immediately knew this was the work I'm meant to do in the world. I love it to this day and have never looked back!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Transformation in my clients' lives is hands-down the most fulfilling "accomplishment" in my business. Work is such a huge part of all of our lives that when someone tells me they've gone from anxious & overwhelmed by their job or never able to fully "turn off" from work to getting more done, enjoying themselves along the way, and still having time + energy for personal life, I know I've made a difference - that's what I'm proud of.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Making the transition from employed life to totally independent business owner is not to be underestimated. I was always great at creating my own structure, holding myself accountable, and being mostly self-managed throughout my employed life - even with all of that, working fully on my own was a big adjustment. If you're about to "go solo" but don't have a natural sense of structure, tolerance for ambiguity, time management & discipline - I highly recommend finding a business coaching or joining a program like Reinvent Business Academy, run by Taylor Lou Coaching. Many great programs exist out there; this is just one I can personally vouch for that is great for guiding someone that seeks to build an online coaching business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
One: know thyself, two: know thyself, three: know thyself! Before going out on your own, I'd make sure you've done enough reflection/introspection to know where your strengths, passions, and purpose intersect and how you can best leverage those for the highest contribution through your business. Oh, and - make sure you've validated your product/service with actual sales before going "full time." Product-market fit often takes longer to nail than expected!
