Normalizing the Human Experience - Emily Socha Coaching
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily Socha, Movement Specialist, located in Boston, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Emily Socha (she/her) is an Inner Self Coach and movement specialist based in Arlington, Massachusetts. She combines a degree in applied psychology with credentials as a mobility specialist (FRCms), Certified personal trainer (CPT), corrective exercise specialist, registered yoga teacher, certified health coach, and Inner Voice Facilitator.
Emily's work centers around creating the safe and healthy space necessary for clients to come back to their inherent strength (both emotionally and physically). She practices a constraint-releasing approach, with the belief that we all have everything we need inside of us, we just need to be reminded of it every once in a while.
These gentle reminders come in the form of mobility work (joint-specific strength training), where clients remember how their body was designed to move and be strengthened, and Inner Self sessions, where clients tap into and create a relationship with the wisest part of themselves so that they feel confident, free of anxiety, and unstoppable when building the life they feel called to live.
Emily's goal with each client is for them to walk away with a greater sense of who they really are (and all the confidence and strength (emotional + physical)) that is associated with returning to that version of ourselves (as opposed to the one we were told we're supposed to be).
Tell us about yourself
I got started in my business because, for me, being in the gym was the first place I learned how to feel true confidence. Growing up, I was always considered the shy one, the quiet one, but when I stepped into the weight room and learned how to throw around some plates, I got a taste of my own internal strength for the very first time. Although I have grown and expanded the work that I do with clients significantly since those first few weeks in the gym, that initial time period of awakening to my own strength (both inner and outer) was the seed that continues to supply everything that the business is growing into to this day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is the evolution that I have been through as a business owner and a human. People don't often talk about the ebbs and flows that come with being a business owner, but they are there, and they are real. I look back on my capacity to acknowledge where I'm at, pivot to a more aligned direction, and expand in proportion with what I (and my clients) most need at that moment with the highest regard.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Operating in a world that's not necessarily set up for small business owners. The 9-5 still primarily rules the world in a lot of ways, and it makes it challenging on many levels to exist outside of that structure.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Baby steps in the beginning.
- Follow the breadcrumbs. There's no right way to do anything.
- You have all the answers inside of you. Trust yourself more than you think you should.
