What's your business, and who are your customers?
Genetic Garden is a functional nutrition provider that aims to give people the tools they need to take ownership of their health. Customers range from all ages and life stages. Usually, it's people who have not been able to find answers to their health struggles, need personalized or tailored health advice, or, in the case of my Holistic Hormone Academy, are females looking to optimize their overall and reproductive health.
Tell us about yourself
I am where I am because I had to become my own health detective, from skin issues like ocular dermatitis to hormonal imbalances like elevated estrogen to unresolved stress and trauma creating persistent pain. Doctor to doctor and specialist to specialist, I was left with more unknowns than answers, so I sought education and answers on my own. Functional medicine was finally where I found connections and root causes that finally began to answer my lingering health questions. I am motivated every day to help people get the answers they deserve much quicker than my own path!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Through 3 rounds of the Holistic Hormone Academy, 100% of the women whose goal was pregnancy were able to conceive! I love the moment with each client when they say, "Ah ha! That finally makes sense, and I feel like I have hope."
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Wearing all the hats! Nutrition education, epigenetics, personalized workouts, hormone balancing, and optimizing fertility are things I am trained in and thrive at, but accounting, marketing, and my own PR these hats are new and much more challenging!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a mentor and support system.
- Do it! If it's your passion, don't hesitate.
- Compare yourself to your previous self only. Growth is unique to each person, and comparison to others will only hurt your heart.
