What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own Embrace Fertility providing IVF coaching and integrative fertility support to individuals and couples struggling to conceive.

Tell us about yourself

I was an anonymous egg donor while in nursing school to help pay for school (eons ago). My donation experiences led me to my career and passion as a fertility nurse. I have been a nurse since 2004. I love that I help my clients lighten the burden of IVF pressure and anxiety.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It would probably be creating a 12-week fertility wellness program from scratch, including over 25 resources for my clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a solo entrepreneur, I think one of the most difficult parts is not having someone to bounce ideas off of and lift you up when you're feeling overwhelmed.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You don't have to be perfect to get started. I am always improving my offerings, tweaking my website, etc., as I learn what is best for my company.
  2. Ask for help - if you can. Your time is precious, and if you can hire or arrange free interns to help with some aspects of your business, it can be very helpful to free up time for what you excel at.
  3. It is easy to feel overwhelmed. Remember to take time, be proud of what you have accomplished, and celebrate the small wins!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's an amazing feeling to call yourself a business owner, but it's not for everyone. It takes dedication, long hours, tears, and more to run your own company, but it's worth it!
