What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Elu Wellness (www.eluwellness.ca), and we are a registered massage and acupuncture clinic in Burnaby. We specialize in deep tissue massage, trigger point, sports therapy, relaxation, Swedish, acupuncture, and cupping. We also do direct billing and accept ICBC claims for massage and acupuncture.
Tell us about yourself
I have a marketing background, and once I got our business started, I was able to get instant results through my online marketing and other marketing initiatives. Within two months, we were able to outrank Google, similar businesses that have been around for over ten years. We got into the business when my wife was on maternity leave and always wanted to start a business. Combined, my wife and I make a great team. Each of us with a different set of skills we bring to the company.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to service the community and see how our clinic is able to better the lives of our customers.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
That this is not a 9 to 5 job; to make your business successful, you work above and beyond regular hours.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a passion for what business you are starting.
- Have marketing, business plan, and PNL sheets all in order.
- Learn how to market your business.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you are starting a business, learn everything about your business. That means learn every task and job, don't be afraid to clean the toilets and do every job in the company, so you know what's it's like to work there. Basically, roll up your sleeves and get down and dirty in every aspect of your business.
