Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elizabeth Moore, Co-Founder of TRILUNA, located in Hermitage, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
TRILUNA is an agency focused on wellness consulting and purposeful event enhancement. We help organizers, HR teams, and marketers build meaningful connections to increase well-being and engagement.
Tell us about yourself
TRILUNA is co-founded by two people: Me and Ashley Brooke James. We each left our careers burned out and seeking a better way. Through our individual journeys, we each came to the conclusion that in order for wellness to work, it would need an overhaul. After health coaching and yoga certifications, self-study, and three years of running workshops for companies like LinkedIn, Salesforce, Amazon, and more, we've come to believe in two fundamental truths:
- That we are as well as our community is well and
- That wellness is designed to benefit our life, not control them.
The combination of those two beliefs means that we are as rooted in community care as we are in self-care, and we work to bring real, transformative conversations to the table. Ashley and I created the space in wellness we needed. We couldn't find the inclusive, mental-health-first space we needed, so we created it for others. We are driven every single day by our mission to make wellness more accessible and inclusive. On the days when things get really hard, we always return to this.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our business celebrates four years this week. We started a year before the pandemic, and we've had to pivot many times and be incredibly light on our feet to stay afloat. And we have! We're still here four years later, and that feels like an accomplishment all on its own. We have worked so hard and been able to impact so many people and so many events because our passion and dedication have kept us running all this time.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner can be really lonely and really heavy. You'll be responsible for yourself and for other people. There's no one telling you what to do––great! Also, there's no one telling you what to do––scary. Building a network early on of mentors, sponsors, and peers is critical.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start with the end in mind. What do you want your business to do for you? Do you want it to take you all over the world? Make your famous? Help you live a quiet, self-sustaining life? Where you want to go informs how you get there and what you build along the way.
- Do your research and know what you need. Do you want to start a small business or be an entrepreneur? Taking on investment means giving away some ownership. Not taking investments means you have less, and it will take longer. Your plans will get changed a million times but know your direction and research what types of capital are available to you (and what you're willing to sacrifice).
- Understand the problem you solve inside and out. To be successful, you'll need to use the language of your target audience to solve their problem. This means you need to know who your target audience is and what exactly their problem is. Interview, ask, and research. This will save you a million hours of heartache down the road.
