What's your business, and who are your customers?

I love creating scrumptious jewelry with sterling, stones & cultured sea glass. Our rugged coast & beautiful towns are my muse. Color is my inspiration & I hope my designs reflect the wearer's unique personality.

Tell us about yourself

Feeling uninspired as a nurse/drug representative, I left it all behind. I began my art & jewelry business in the city. Then the opportunity presented itself to move to the tiny coastal town of Trinity and create full-time in my seaside studio. If I live to be 200, I will never be able to make all the designs I have in my head. I dream in handmade 24 hours a day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Reaching a global audience from a little town has been a challenge; however, I now have representation right across the country and in the four corners of the USA. I am delighted to share my designs with a larger audience through fine gift shops & galleries.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying focused and finding time for the business responsibilities such as staffing, paperwork, taxes, etc. (i.e., the boring stuff) gets in the way of the studio work (i.e., the fun stuff). It's all equally important so staying focused is tough but essential.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Find what you are totally passionate about. Do your homework & know your competition. Enjoy every day!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I often wished I had begun my art & jewelry business right out of high school, but then I realized I am where I am because of what I have done. I learned processes as a nurse & gained valuable selling skills in my job as a pharmaceutical representative, so nothing is wasted. It's all a journey, and I think I have much more respect & enjoy every day as a result.
