Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Hofstatter, owner of Elite Physio, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a rehabilitation clinic offering Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, and Massage Therapy. We offer our services to anyone who requires treatments for any injury or problem that restricts them from doing their normal activities or affects them during recreational activities. We provide one-on-one patient-centered care from Children to adults, office workers to athletes, and also provide care to people involved in Motor vehicle accidents or work-related injuries.
Tell us about yourself
I was first introduced to physiotherapy due to an injury I had while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. I was so impressed with how quickly I recovered and how interesting the profession of Physiotherapy was that I decided to go back to University once I retired to pursue my goal of becoming a physiotherapist myself. I am very fortunate to be a physiotherapist because every day I come into work, I know that I will help someone feel better. I feel great that our clinic is a helping member of our community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments, I guess, is that this year marks my 10th year in business. The other would be recognized as one of the best clinics and physiotherapists in all of Mississauga for the past seven years.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would say finding a good work & life balance. As a business owner, you are not only responsible for yourself and your family but also responsible for all of your staff and your patients. So, you have to sacrifice at times to ensure everyone is well taken care of and that the business will continue to succeed and provide exceptional care to our patients and be an outstanding member of our community.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Develop a sound five-year business plan (location, who you are targeting, costs, potential revenue, staffing...etc.).
- Have a passion/belief in what you are going to do/sell.
- Be prepared to work 60 to 80 hours a week for that first five years and expect the unexpected.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Being a business owner is a hard but rewarding venture. Your mission and vision and the drive you have to succeed will definitely be the determining factor on whether or not you will be successful and if you will be able to make a living as a business owner.
