What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wildflower Social Media is a social media agency for small to mid-sized businesses that want to be strategic with their social media.
Tell us about yourself
I started working in social media in 2017 by helping an entrepreneurship student at my school start using social media strategically. Since then, I got my bachelor's degree in Strategic Communications from Elon University and continued working for a variety of different businesses, including law firms, hospitals and other medical facilities, authors, and nonprofits. Some of this work I did while working for a public relations agency, and the rest I've done on my own.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Running a business is challenging in ways I didn't expect, but I'm still here. I'm retaining customers. And I'm learning something new every day.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is also the best thing about being a business owner. The buck stops with me. There is no boss telling me what to do or when to do it. If I screw up, that's on me. If I don't want to work, no one is going to make me. And keeping that dedication to the business is hard while also being incredibly rewarding.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start now. You're never going to feel ready, and that is okay.
- Failure is only failure if you do not learn from it. Otherwise, it is just a lesson.
- Focus on money-generating activities. When you start a business, everyone wants to sell you something. Everyone has an opinion. Pay attention to how your leads and bottom line respond to what you do.
