Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Len Chong, Founder of Elios Health, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a physiotherapy and massage clinic specializing in outdoor adventure athletes' rehabilitation and performance preparation.

Tell us about yourself

The human body is a magnificent machine. By its very nature, it has the ability to move, to heal, to thrive. When we are injured and in pain, our ability to thrive is diminished. I feel that my role as a health practitioner – a physiotherapist – is to facilitate the healing process for my clients. I do not 'fix' them; rather, I provide knowledge and learning, hands-on therapy, and rehabilitative movement to enhance the body's inherent healing ability. I cannot think of a better way to help my clients than to empower them with the understanding that they play a massive role in their rehabilitation.

Personally, my health is very important to me. I want to be as healthy as I can be so that I may give my best to my family and the community. When I see my clients finally attain the goal that they have been working on for months, compete at their national gymnastics competition, demolish that shed they have been meaning to for years, or finally be able to crouch down to plant this season's tomatoes, it fills me with joy and motivation. It drives me to excel in every aspect of my life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We have been able to help athletes compete at the very top of their field in the national teams in various sports, as well as people developing first ascents in the outdoor rock climbing and mountaineering field. It's incredible to be on a team with people as ambitious as we are.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The demands on one's time. You have to continue to excel at your profession but also ensure all the smaller details are attended to. Additionally, you have to keep the stoke in yourself and get out on your own adventures, and that's what keeps us sane!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a great team around you!
  2. Keep your standards high.
  3. Know and abide by your personal values - don't get sidetracked.
