Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eleni Minadaki, a web designer and web developer based in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is on web development, web design, and SEO.

Tell us about yourself

My first job was at an advertising company, promoting iced tea. My first studies were at an aesthetician school, where I graduated with excellent grades at the age of 21. Since then, and for about 8 years, I have worked as an aesthetician and pharmacy assistant. After all these years, I realized that the future I wanted there is nowhere around these jobs. My responsibilities increased each year, but my salary stayed the same.

I started thinking about what I could do that let me develop; also, I wanted to build something while passing the years that would stay with me. I didn't like that after leaving the company, except for experience, which is very helpful, nothing else stays with me. I liked working from a computer, from every corner of the world; I liked that freedom. I took some digital marketing lessons and web development, and since then, I fell in love with that and stuck with it, trying to build my own company.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that my customers often comment on how well they can communicate with me. High-quality service is my highest goal after technical skills in order to complete a project, and this makes me very happy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the responsibility for the results, when things go well, and when things go bad, and keep going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Educate yourself as much as you can, and be a lifelong learner.
  2. Be good with people. All have the need for good communication; technical skills alone can't ensure your success.
  3. Find good and educated people to work with.
