What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own and operate Effloresce Coaching, an Ayurvedic Wellness & Life Coaching business that helps mamas who are suffering through fertility challenges, difficult pregnancy and birth experiences, hormonal imbalances, and feeling unfulfilled within their parenting journey. The holistic coaching programs at Effloresce provide mamas with the same nourishing space they tend to hold for others and teach them lasting techniques and strategies to reclaim their innate wholeness through healing on a personal and generational level.

Tell us about yourself

My coaching approach is unique as it draws both from my experience as a mama (I have two children ages 7 &10), and from my rich clinical background as a labor and delivery social worker, spending years learning to understand women’s thoughts, emotions, lived experiences and challenges. I’m a prolific supporter of empowered birth culture and have, myself, experienced both intervention-laden hospital birth and self-led homebirth. I apply this breadth of knowledge with a holistic focus on Ayurveda (an ancient healing science that works to balance the body, mind, and spirit through connection to the five main elements and offer insight into root-cause healing) and teach holistic rituals and practices to empower fertility health and wellness. The integrative approach I take is woven from cognitive techniques, hypnosis, mindfulness, somatic movement/yoga, and a desire for mamas to move away from trauma and stigmatizing diagnoses and embrace their intrinsic wholeness. I am deeply motivated by the power of sisterhood and witnessing each other along our quest for healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is showing up so continuously and consistently for myself with no formal business training or desire to own a business. My mission is so important to me that I had to be willing to “learn as I go” and humbly accept the calling to create a business for my work. This often means collecting feedback and mentoring through challenging experiences and allowing bad decisions to be very thorough teaching moments. I am proud to be entering my 4th year of business owning this fall!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest business-owning challenge for me is balancing “on” hours with “off” hours and maintaining those boundaries. As a busy mama of young children, the lines can easily get blurred, and it takes dedication and perseverance to uphold the boundaries necessary to preserve capacity for each arena of life we are responsible for.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be prepared to go deeper within yourself, your negative programming, and limiting beliefs than you can imagine possible.
  2. Be consistent–no one else is going to show up to the business you’re creating if YOU are not showing up to it consistently!
  3. Trust in the ebbs and flows and take advantage of the ebbs to sink deeper into personal growth work, which will inform and manifest bigger flows!
