What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wicker Law Group, based in San Diego, provides legal representation for cannabis entrepreneurs throughout California.
Our expertise is working with the complexities of local, State, and Federal laws concerning cannabis and hemp. We regularly advise buyers and sellers concerning the merger and acquisition of licensed cannabis businesses. We provide legal representation for acquiring cannabis licenses and permits from the State and local governments for all cannabis license types, including cultivation, distribution, manufacturing, retail, and other related cannabis business services.
Tell us about yourself
I decided to focus my law practice on the cannabis business in 2012 as Colorado and Washington State were on the cusp of legalizing cannabis. Despite Federal prohibition of cannabis, cannabis consumers and patients were demanding legal and safe access. This groundswell of political activity created an opportunity to work with businesses to create a new legal industry.
Current laws governing cannabis are complex, over-regulated, and constantly changing. This challenging framework of business and politics provides a unique opportunity for success. All members of our legal team are committed to improving the laws as much as we are focused on providing legal representation for cannabis entrepreneurs.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As lawyers, we are always focused on helping clients achieve their goals. Throughout my forty (40+) years of practicing law, the biggest accomplishments are finding the best way to achieve my client's goals. My team has repeatedly achieved this goal through closing deals involving millions of dollars of transactional work, providing legal advice to comply with complicated cannabis regulations, and settling disputes.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Maintaining and growing a business are constant tasks. There are always challenges and always things that can be done every day. But it is important to see the long-term goals. This focus requires balance and time to reflect.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
