What's your business, and who are your customers?
Ecom Queens is a boutique website design & marketing agency for eCommerce business owners. As Shopify Certified Experts, we know what it takes to make your products shine. Our mission is to help passionate people who sell online sell MORE online.
Tell us about yourself
Back in 2016, I was working in the insurance industry when I read an article about starting a business online. I was immediately intrigued and started the Google search that changed my life. Within a week, I had products secured, a website, and social accounts up and running! Then, I learned as I went - watching free videos, testing ads, getting excited by each Cha-Ching, and tweaking things along the way. This store, Zero To Two, was my test subject, and I loved every minute of it. The business generated many sales, but at the end of the day, it wasn't profitable - it all went back into ads and marketing. So not a success, not a failure - a learning experiment. From there, I took a position managing the marketing for a large-scale eCommerce brand. And in late 2019 - went solo, helping small to medium business owners launch their dreams on Shopify, just like I had done a few years ago. Now in 2022, we are proud to have helped 45+ brands launch, market, and scale their products. I also enjoy educating and helping service providers and business owners, guiding them in getting started. It's been quite a journey!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am so grateful that I get to do what I love every day. Knowing that I'm making a difference in helping so many other business owners launch their dream products feels very fulfilling. Seeing the company grow month over month and year over year feels great too!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being the one responsible for everything and making decisions. All day, every day. Feeling like you're just winging it because even when the company grows, there's still always this sense of imposter syndrome. The natural highs and lows of running a business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Learn, learn, learn! Most of the fundamentals of running a business are not taught in a typical college program. Be open and interested in expanding your skill set. Look for online courses to join, or watch videos on YouTube, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, and more. Watch this content with an open mind - not everything will be applicable to you or utilizing the strategy that you will use. But this provides a great backbone. I still allocate a significant budget per year for online courses and mastermind opportunities.
- Jump in and play around! If you're in the web design industry, build a website, then another, then another. Translate this into your industry. Play around, build your portfolio, improve your skillset, and then offer it to the world.
- Don't be scared to make big jumps. That's not to say be reckless. Weigh your pros and cons, and then - go for it! You can be realistic about the outcome but still, give yourself a time frame to test it out. Good luck - you got this!
