Down To Earth Public Relations - Earth O. Jallow

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Earth O. Jallow, CEO of Down To Earth Public Relations Inc., located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm in the business of people! Most would call it Public Relations and Marketing. My customers consist largely of published authors and those in the entertainment industry.

Tell us about yourself

I remember standing in my kitchen one day, sick and tired of not being free to be creative, and that's the day I decided to walk away from stagnation and run toward my dreams. I'd always loved to write and was a pretty good people person, plus college had afforded me a marketing degree that I hadn't used yet, so marketing became my chosen field.

Money motivates most people; however, seeing people happy motivates me. I enjoy seeing people at their best, and to know that I was able to assist them in shining brighter, fills me with so much joy. Seeing people achieve their goals, improve their lives, and build something solid for their future and families is priceless!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've managed to remain in business for more than twenty years, and that, to me, is one heck of an accomplishment. I've also managed to work with some of the bigger names in the entertainment industry, as well as international motivational speakers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Late nights and early mornings! Once you've taken going into business seriously, sleep becomes a treat, and you learn to appreciate the moments you can get in a quick nap! You also have no one micromanaging you, so you must train yourself to stay focused because you have other people's careers in your hands! Knowing this keeps me on track!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you know exactly what type of business you would like to run and secure some startup capital.
  2. Organizing can help you run your business smoothly and efficiently, and your accountant/tax person will thank you!
  3. I believe going the extra mile for your clients and delivering quality products will definitely grow your business. Be fair and honest about what you can deliver and build a solid relationship with the people you serve. Budget for marketing needs! Marketing is important when just starting and trying to be seen in your market.
