Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alicia Fairclough, Founder of EA How To, located in London, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

EA How To is the most valuable resource for assistants around the globe. We provide resources and free training to Executive and personal assistants at every stage of their careers. Our private community is a thriving hub of knowledge and support.

Tell us about yourself

It took me a lot of time and experience to figure out what I wanted to do for a living. Once I found the EA world, I felt like I had found my people. I love bringing the assistant community together to learn from and support one another.

I'm a passionate content creator, so combining my love of content creation with my love of the assistant world is incredibly special and fulfilling. I'm constantly motivated by our community members, making life easier for them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has to be the creation of our EA How To community. We have around 42000 members across all platforms, and seeing how they support each other with such kindness is impressive. Our members are talented and love sharing their knowledge. Knowing that they have a space to do that is the absolute best.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part about being a business owner is also one of the best parts about being a business owner. It's that the buck stops with you. The wins are yours, and so are the hard lessons. Being responsible for everything from finances and customer service to social media and content creation is a lot.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Test your concept before you go all in. I did EA How To on the side of full-time employment for three years before taking it on as my sole source of income.
  2. Build a community. A great product with an audience could be a better product.
  3. Put your community at the center of everything you do. I'm constantly considering what is helpful for our members and questioning why.
