What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a freelance copywriter, translator, and language tutor. For the translation and tutoring business, my customers are people trying to learn English or Kabuverdianu - Creole from Cape Verde, where I am from.

For my copywriting business, I create or optimize email marketing campaigns and write long-form blog posts for other businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I am a 24-year-old entrepreneur from Cape Verde. I am currently in Lisbon, and I started my business because I believe that I can create jobs for myself and others. I studied for five years at the university level, but they are too focused on creating people who need to find a job, which for me is one of the issues in my country. I think although we are an entrepreneurial people, there are too many employees and not enough employers now. I feel like I'd rather help create jobs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment right now is making more as a freelancer than at my regular job. It shows me that there is potential to make more and help others do the same as well.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think separating yourself from the business is pretty hard. As entrepreneurs, we think that we are our ideas and projects. We feel like we need to be 100% there for everything to happen, which is true at the beginning, but as you scale the business, you will need to delegate tasks to other people. Otherwise, you risk not growing.
