Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily Brandenburg, Founder of E.B. Design Agency, located in the United States.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I refer to myself as a soulful entrepreneur, and even though I'm a Digital Marketer + Web Designer, I guarantee you've never seen a marketer like me before! My business is all about helping women get completely aligned with the content they are putting out into the online world, whether that's with social media, their website, email, etc. I focus on purpose, not just strategy, and help my clients reconnect with their big WHY. Understanding their own desires in life and quieting the chaos around them is what will propel their business forward.
Tell us about yourself
I remember being laughed at by my family when I first started working in technology before starting my business. They couldn't believe someone hired me as a Technology Support Manager for an entire school district. I was heartbroken, but I didn't give up. Fast forward seven years, and here I am with a business that allows me to travel the world. How many people can say that? And IN TECHNOLOGY! My ultimate motivation is knowing that there are women out there who might be just about to give up on their business. Maybe it's gotten too hard, or they're just stuck. All they need is the right support to not give up, and I strive to be that person. I want to be the reason a woman doesn't give up. I want to be the reason she believes in herself again. I want to be the reason she keeps going and transforms hundreds of lives with her business. That is what motivates me each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That I have designed a business that allows me to work from anywhere in the world and was able to start living as a digital nomad this year! Dreams do come true!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. I used to think that eventually, once I'd been in business long enough, it would just get easy. I was so wrong, but that's not a bad thing! Being uncomfortable means that we are constantly growing! On average, I tackle something new just about every week. In the beginning, it used to terrify me, but now I thrive on it, so don't be afraid to go after something that is difficult. You are so much more capable than you realize, so don't ever forget that you absolutely can do hard things.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Giving up will kill your business faster than failure ever will. Keep going!
- Accept that it will be hard, but it will also be worth it.
- Don't worry about how many people are already doing what you want to do. There is only one YOU and only one person with YOUR voice.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I am launching my very first podcast this month (June 2022) called Female Firesides, where I interview female entrepreneurs and give them a safe platform to share their stories. I'm always looking for women to interview, so feel free to check out my website + apply to be on!
