Social-First Marketing Firm - dysrupt
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nate Lorenzen, Founder of dysrupt, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Dysrupt is a marketing firm specializing in all aspects of paid social. By leveraging our impact advertising system, we partner with innovative customers across a myriad of verticals. Our customers range from Fortune 500 companies to venture-backed startups who are interested in supercharging their efforts on social.
Tell us about yourself
For more than 15 years, I've worked at innovating new offerings and strategies that help clients better reach their target audience and surpass their KPIs. I'm passionate about working closely with clients to uncover unique solutions that innovate their industry, disrupt the marketplace, and get results that exceed their expectations.
I draw motivation from having skin in the game with each and every client who dysrupt support. Becoming a partner, and not just a vendor, is crucial to turning advertising into a competitive advantage.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Dysrupt has been at the forefront of numerous innovative strategies on paid social. To such a degree, we were interviewed by Meta for their Performance Innovation series. We are huge fans of the impact we drive for our clients daily.
As a business is a collection of people accomplishing a shared goal, I draw fuel from seeing individual team members grow and advance their careers.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Dysrupt was launched in January 2020, right before COVID started. This created an interesting first year for the business; however, it provided a great opportunity to focus and hone our playbook. Ultimately this "trial by fire" built a resilient marketing firm with great services for the market.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Talk To Your Customers Constantly - You are building a product or service to either solve a problem or improve a current process. It is crucial to have a feedback cycle around each and every customer that interacts with your business. Continuing to hone and simplify the product and service to meet the customer needs is crucial to break into any vertical.
- Build In Public - First-time entrepreneurs tend to build in stealth mode for fear that people will steal their idea. Second-time entrepreneurs build in public because they understand how hard it is to attract attention. As it always comes down to execution, not the idea, it is so much better to build in public and gain support early for your business/offering.
- Focus - There are only so many thought cycles that can occur in a day. Ensure you are prioritizing them appropriately and remove anything causing distractions towards your goal. This includes auditing information sources,e.g., social media, to ensure they are additive to your mission.
