Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tierra Lee, Owner of Drunken Lipstick, located in Marietta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company is called Drunken Lipstick, a solo spa that offers a wide range of skincare and makeup services. We service primarily women but definitely do not discriminate against men. In short… We provide π‚πŽππ…πˆπƒπ„ππ‚π„ boosting services to 𝐄𝐍𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 your personal and professional πˆπŒπ€π†π„ while creating personalized π’πŽπ‹π”π“πˆπŽππ’ that help display your natural π‘π€πƒπˆπ€ππ‚π„.

Tell us about yourself

I have had a love for makeup my entire life, even in the years where I was too young to wear it. My passion for makeup led me down the road to skincare. I wanted to do more than cover up imperfections; I wanted to get rid of them. I had no background knowledge of skincare and could only suggest what I knew worked for me. So I decided I would become more for my clients. I would learn how to treat their skin so that when it’s time for makeup, it’s just an enhancement, not a mask. I do this because it brings me joy to see the reactions my clients have over their results. It’s one thing to give them a crutch to rely on; it’s a whole other thing when you remove the need for the crutch.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is staying true to my nature. I have what they call a β€œnever give up” attitude, which has gotten me this far. There are definitely days where I just feel like balling up and quitting, but then I remember there’s always tomorrow.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Remembering not to take it personally. Often times we can forget that our business is not for everybody, and it shouldn’t be. We want all of our friends and family to support and become a client/customers, but they don’t all actually fit the profile. They were never meant to, and remembering that is harder than it seems.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t just do it for the money, do it because it generates joy for you.
  2. Once you start, keep pushing… A baby step is still a step.
  3. Don’t take it personally; rejection is a part of the game.
