What's your business, and who are your customers?
I produce paintings and prints for sale. The paintings are landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Indian scenes, and New Mexico adobe chapels. The prints so far are of New Mexico adobe chapels and churches. I also have drawings of Denver from the late 1960s and early 1970s with life drawings and landscape scenes.
Tell us about yourself
Actually, I started working in commercial art. Then went from Channel 6 art department to Fire Alert, where I created everything the company needed for promotion and sales. Next, I worked at Dave Cook Sporting Goods, where I ended up being the Advertising Manager. The company was merged with Gart Bros. From there, I went to Metro State to get certified to teach art primarily. I got certified, and it led to a teaching position in Aurora Public Schools. Eventually, I went to Littleton Public Schools, where I taught at the alternative High School where I retired.
My motivation is just what shows up since it has varied over the years. That is the background impetus for the wide variety of subjects. Of late, I have found an interest in painting scenes that incorporate landscapes and Pueblo Indians in their home settings doing their ordinary tasks.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been asked to paint a number of murals over the years, and this has allowed me to produce them in a variety of techniques.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Sending your work and the paperwork.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I do not think I am a large enough entity, so to speak, to give any tips.
