What's your business, and who are your customers?
Dreamcatcher Career Coaching cultivates career clarity, confidence, and courage for females by helping Millennials to revitalize lackluster careers and Gen Z'ers launch successful careers. I help women Dream Big, Plan Well, and Work Happy!
Tell us about yourself
I always knew I would have my own business someday. About ten years ago, I was working as an HR Director when I developed a serious stress-related illness that required a medical leave of absence. I considered hiring a career coach, and while researching their services, I had an epiphany - I had the skills, knowledge, and expertise to actually BE a career coach. I never want anyone else to feel as "stuck in the muck" as I did!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Witnessing my clients' success is what drives me to continue. When a client does the work and then successfully interviews and lands a new job, it feels like a big win for both of us!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Just getting started! You can wait until you have every single detail in place, but my philosophy is to get the basic framework in place and make tweaks as you go.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- First, contact your local SCORE chapter to find a mentor. SCORE is a national network of business experts who volunteer their time to assist small business owners.
- Second, outsource what you can. Many small business owners outsource day-to-day administrative work to virtual assistants.
- Finally, you can't expect immediate success. Having your own business is hard work! You'll need resilience to endure the highs and lows that come with being a small business owner.
