Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Manny Saini Samra, a renowned Chiropractor based in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a local Chiropractor in Winnipeg, and I love working with Women and Athletes to help them reach their health and wellness goals and overall better health.
Tell us about yourself
I became a Chiropractor because of my mom! She had gone through a lot of health issues, and she was always given surgery as an option without even trying less invasive forms of therapy. I meet many people who have musculoskeletal issues and think they have to live in pain for their whole life. That's not the case! If Chiropractic can't help them, I refer them to other health care providers that can. I love hearing from patients when they can do the smallest things in their daily life without any pain (e.g., Holding their grandchildren, etc.).
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is getting to work with a diverse group of people with unique issues and seeing how healthy life changes can make an impact on their life. My biggest accomplishment was when I started seeing a family that hated eating vegetables, drinking water, and exercising and was in constant pain. Once we worked out the musculoskeletal conditions, they started slowly changing things, and now they love eating salads with all their meals, exercise daily, and feel so much better with more energy. They aren't in pain anymore, and they have the tools to keep their body strong and healthy.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The paperwork. The best way to keep track of your patient's treatment plan and outcomes is to take detailed notes every time you see them. Some days I end up staying much later in the office just to finish them for the day. But it's worth it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know exactly what you want. Don't go to Grad school or any program without shadowing someone who does this for a living. You don't want to spend all this time, energy, and money in a program only to learn it doesn't bring you any joy or satisfaction. Shadow as many people as you can.
- Make connections and market yourself. There are a lot of health providers out there, but there is only ONE of you. Figure out what makes you unique and niche down. It's a lot easier to help a small group of people with something you are good at than trying to please everyone.
- Keep learning and growing. Learning doesn't stop once you graduate. Research is always showing us new things that may be more effective with our treatment protocols which will help in your practice. Learning new skills is always great to help build your toolbox.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Life is short, so please do yourself a favor and find something that brings you joy. If the past two years have taught us anything, I think this is it!
