Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Kwapniowski, Owner of Dr. Lisa K Health, located in Omaha, NE, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a health and wellbeing coach, helping women in perimenopause/menopause reclaim their youth and restore vitality by naturally balancing hormones to beat fatigue, lose belly fat and live the life of their dreams.
Tell us about yourself
My background is in pharmacy. I obtained my Doctor of Pharmacy degree and spent over 25 years working in the healthcare system. In addition, I have always had an interest in personal wellness. Over the years, I have stayed up to date on the most relevant research related to nutrition, fitness, and any wellness topics. In my lifetime, I have lived through the low-fat, no-fat, you name it, diet craze that presented itself in the '90s and '00s, Now a bit older and perhaps wiser, I have embraced a holistic approach to health through nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness.
As a pharmacist, I had a front-row seat to see what lifestyle can do to our health. Despite wanting to help others take control of their health and prevent disease, modern healthcare isn't enough. Patients need more support and resources to make the changes necessary to prevent disease and live their best life.
My passion for holistic wellness compelled me to pivot from the front line of healthcare, which is typically reactive to our lifestyle choices and subsequent disease. I want to be a leader of change and be proactive in preventing disease and illness.
My passion for helping women navigate the years of perimenopause and menopause comes from living through this time myself. I have experienced the symptoms and know how small changes can make a substantial difference in overall health.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is watching the women and clients in my programs make sustainable changes in their health journey and begin to thrive in their lives.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges in entrepreneurship, especially online business, is staying on top of the changing trends in technology. My training is in health and wellness, so learning how to market myself and build an online business has been challenging yet rewarding at the same time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- First and foremost: Get out of your own way! It will never be perfect, so stop trying to wait until everything is done and perfect before you launch. Do it messy and refine it as you progress.
- Do not compare your journey to someone else's. You will find and follow other business owners who seem more polished and successful. The truth is they have probably been doing this for many years and have had plenty of failed attempts along the way. Learn from your mistakes as well as theirs and keep moving forward to embrace and live your dream.
- Finally, it is ok to forge your own path. You do not have to be on every new trend and bandwagon just because you think it will grow your business. Listen to what your inner soul is telling you, and be brave enough to try new and innovative techniques for your business. You may be the next trendsetter that everyone is trying to copy!
