What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a psychologist/leadership coach, my work is primarily in working with leaders who are in transition, whether in expanding their vision for their company or in changing their vision for themselves.

Tell us about yourself

I have founded 4 companies and watched as some became far more successful than I ever imagined. In doing so, I came to understand what it means to lead your company rather than having your company lead you. Leadership is a conscious choice that calls you to stay alert, excited and invest in yourself as well as your company.

Having worked with numerous business owners, when I am able to recognize that their dreams far outweigh where they are currently, I am able to help them discover their real dreams, not the ones they are limiting themselves to. I get to help them grow into the person who can achieve that dream while also providing pragmatic tools and tips. At the same time, their company and we undergo the transformation needed.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Hiring more and more employees and 1099's to expand my vision and watch how my work spreads nationally and globally. My impact and influence in calling people to grow grew far beyond anything I ever imagined.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing when it is time for a change, whether because you have outgrown a vision or because the needs and expectations of others no longer support your vision. Walking away.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure it is something that your heart and soul want. You will need them when logic says to take the easy road.
  2. Know you cannot do it alone. Have advisors, colleagues, and professional mentors/coaches to guide you.
  3. Have a clear plan, with set goals and benchmarks, including the culture and procedures you want in place.
