Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Daniel Gordon, a Private General Practitioner based in London, England, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a highly experienced doctor whose modern approach to medical care offers a high-care multidisciplinary medical model with the objective of empowering patients. The North London-based practice takes the best of the multidisciplinary NHS approach and combines it with the service of traditional private healthcare resulting in medical support for the modern consumer. We listen, we support, and we foster excellent care. My leading healthcare clinic emphasises a holistic approach to health, treating each patient as an individual, recognising the role of lifestyle factors in health and illness, and working together with patients and their families to achieve the best outcomes.
I firmly believe in drawing on collective expertise when it comes to healthcare, and as such, I am proud to collaborate with a network of highly experienced specialists, including dieticians, osteopaths, and physiotherapists. A large amount of the practice is dedicated to mental health work. My patients tend to be young professionals, parents with young children, and also older patients who like to have a personal approach to their healthcare. The majority of my patients are tech savvy and have really done their research by google searches and reading patient reviews before coming to me. The main part of my client base is in London. However, I do get referred to from elsewhere in the UK.
Tell us about yourself
I launched my own practice in January 2022 after working in another surgery for many years and was determined to go on my own. I was confident I had the skills to do it and the knowledge to provide top-quality, excellent care for patients, which is my primary motivation. I'm passionate about the medical industry and supporting patients with a personal approach.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is the rapid growth, recognition, and respect I've gained within the industry. I'm very proud of the collaborations that have developed since launching the business. We collaborate with a network of highly experienced specialists, including dieticians, osteopaths, and physiotherapists, which bolsters our offering. We dedicated a huge amount of time and effort to marketing early on; focusing on SEO and patient feedback is hugely important for us.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I've found since launching my own, at the start, one of the hardest things is dealing with isolation and not having someone around me to run things past, you can very easily get stuck into your own flow, and it's important to be objective and find other perspectives around you. For me, I've worked hard to establish a strong support mechanism for myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't delay and procrastinate because you think you need validation from someone else. You have the skills to do it, and you need to be confident in yourself.
- Maintaining and fostering your network. It's important to maintain good relationships which you have built within your career.
- Keeping your customer base at the front and centre of everything.
