Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Courtney Tracy, Founder of The Truth Seekers LLC., located in Laguna Beach, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own multiple businesses. Professionally and clinically, I am a licensed clinical social worker and doctor of clinical psychology who founds and directs co-occurring treatment centers. My newest venture, Exist Centers, will be opening in Laguna Beach, CA, in early to mid-2023. Socially, I own a multimedia company, The Truth Seekers, that hosts all platforms stemming from "The Truth Doctor," my public figure character.
Through this company, I host shows such as The Truth Doctor Show on YouTube and Therapist Reacts on Snapchat Discover. I also have an online audience of over 2,000,000 people who seek relatable, no-BS content creation from me in all areas of life, including but not limited to mental health, parenting, relationships, family, work, education, society, and more.
Tell us about yourself
I got into the business of helping humans because I was once a human who needed help. What motivates me is that the human condition, the human brain, and the human experience is all malleable. We can change our circumstances. We can grow, and we deserve to. Every one of us.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest personal accomplishment as a business owner was growing a business while pushing through immense emotional distress, making the difficult decision to sell my first business for my own sanity, and building myself back up again, ready to start anew.
My biggest professional accomplishment as a business owner is having multiple employees and partners thank me for changing their lives not just monetarily but in giving them a purpose, faith in the "system" and/or the people within it, and for always leading with my heart first. Profit over people
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The pressure of responsibility. As a woman, wife, mother, sister, daughter, therapist, public figure, author, host, creator, advocate, speaker, and more in my own life, knowing that I have the ability to make or break all the other roles my employees and clients have in their lives can be overwhelming at times.
How do I handle it? I remind myself that just as many people regard me as a responsibility in their lives. We all support one another (ideally), and we can only do the best we can at any given time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, assess your mental health stability. Make sure you don't create systems within your business that enable poor boundaries, unnecessary pressure, and/or an unhealthy life balance.
Do something that fuels your purpose and brings meaning to your life. Remember that you get to decide what life means, what your purpose is, and how you bring these understandings into your business.
Don't be afraid to start all over again or to stop together. Life is impermanent. Don't expect anything to be any different. You're allowed to change your mind.
